Stamford Bridge has been Chelsea's home since 1905, though the stadium itself dates back to 1877 when it was built as an athletics ground. Situated in Fulham ā despite the club's association with the Chelsea neighbourhood ā the ground's distinctive East Stand was constructed in the 1970s and remains one of the most striking structures in English football. Long-term redevelopment proposals have circulated for years, but Stamford Bridge retains a fierce atmosphere particularly in the Matthew Harding Stand.
